Wanted: Babies & Books!

In response to shortages of educational supplies in Khayelitsha, Art Aids Art is collecting
new and gently used infant Black dolls and multicultural children's books.

Our first donation deadline is December 5. Dolls and books will be included in a special
shipment to eKhaya eKasi Center, our art and education center in South Africa.

Literature has the power to deeply engage children in learning. Charlie Parker Played Be Bop
was a favorite during our literacy intensive in March (see the video here). We have just
received new footage of students who committed the story to memory and, six months later,
are still performing it in our after school program!  Click here to see them in action.

Rooftop Garden Blooms

eKhaya eKasi’s rooftop garden has become a focal point for the Khayelitsha community.  As

one passerby noted, “Each day I love to see how the beautiful plants have grown. It is the
highlight of my walk home.”  Thanks to the loving care of our gardener Thabang, as well as
donations from U.S. supporters and Uthando, the garden yielded its largest harvest ever.
